Embracing the true meaning of Christmas: Celebrating Christ's birth and sharing the Good News to all

Celebrating Christmas with Christ at the center

Though Christmas is celebrated for centuries, many still hesitate to fully embrace the birth of Jesus Christ. For some, Christmas has become just another festive occasion, with its focus shifting toward traditions like decorating Christmas trees, exchanging gifts, and the figure of Santa Claus. These customs, while joyful, can sometimes overshadow or mislead the true meaning of Christmas: the birth of Jesus Christ, who came to save humanity.

So, how can we celebrate Christmas in a meaningful, Christ-centered way? The first step is to remember and spread the good news of Jesus's birth.

Why is it important to share the Good News?

The essence of good news is that it must be shared. It’s not something to be kept to oneself. True joy comes only when the message is spread to others. Sharing the good news of Jesus’s birth is a way of participating in His mission to bring hope to the world. As we celebrate His birth, it is essential to share with others that Christ came into this world to save us from our sins.

There are many ways to share this message. You could visit a non-believer's house with Christmas carols, invite friends and colleagues who may not share your faith to a dinner party, or organize events for children, even including those who don't yet believe. Each of these actions serves as a reminder of the true meaning of Christmas.

Why is it called Good News?

Think about a time when you were trapped in darkness, unable to see, and someone came to open the door, letting in the light and guiding you to safety. The joy and relief you would feel in such a moment would be immense, wouldn’t it? Before Christ came into the world, humanity was in a similar state of darkness, bound by sin. But then, God sent His only Son, Jesus, to shine the light of salvation into our lives. Through Him, we are freed from the darkness of sin and given the gift of eternal life. This is indeed good news.

As the apostle John wrote:

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

— John 1:4-5

Conclusion

As we celebrate Christmas, let’s remember the true meaning of the season: the birth of Jesus Christ, our Savior, who came to bring light to a world lost in darkness. While traditions and festivities are a beautiful part of the celebration, we must keep in mind that Christ’s birth is the ultimate good news. He came to save us from our sins and offer us eternal life. This Christmas, let’s focus on keeping Christ at the center of our celebrations and ensure His message of hope and salvation reaches everyone around us.
